What is the difference between custom cabinets and the cabinets from home centers or lumber yards?

Although they may all look good on the outside, there are many differences between these cabinets. Custom cabinets have a higher quality finish and construction. Custom cabinets aren’t built until you order them, so any special request can be included in the final product. They are usually ¾” thick and all wood. The draws are dovetail and the draw glides are heavy duty. The extra cost for custom is usually less than you would imagine.

Does Brown’s Kitchen & Bath just sell cabinets, or can we do the entire job?

Brown’s will do as much or as little as the customer wants. We can sell you just a counter top or just the cabinets, or we can do the entire project. We have plumbers, carpenters, and electricians etc. to do all aspects of your project.

What are the different cabinet styles?

There are three styles of cabinets, Standard, Full overlay and Inset. With a standard door on your cabinet you can see the frame of the cabinet. With full overlay, the door is the same size as the cabinet so you cannot see the frame. Inset doors fit into the opening in the frame.

What are my choices for counters

There are many counter choices. There are “solid surfaces”, like Corian. A solid surface comes in many colors and the color goes all the way though the entire counter top. So there is never the chance of wearing off the top layer. Solid surfaces are non-porous, they can be cleaned with most cleaners, and best of all they have NO SEAMS.

Granite is a natural stone. It is polished to a high gloss and it is sealed before it is installed. Granite comes in many colors and each piece is different. You can put a hot pan down on granite without damaging it. It is recommended that you not clean it with ammonia and it is also recommended that it be sealed periodically. A sealer can be purchased and applied when needed. There are also other stones used for counters like soap stone and slate. Solid surfaces and granite are comparably priced.

A third surface which will be slightly less is made of quartz crystals with a binder. One brand name is Style Stone; it resembles granite with its shine and texture. It is also safe with a hot pan. There are many different colors.

Lastly there is laminate. Laminate cost 1/3 of the cost of granite or Corian. There are many colors, it is applied to plywood.

How much does a bath remodel cost?

Generally it could cost between $11,000 and $14,000 for an average bath. You can increase this cost with whirlpool tubs and shower system.
